USA Hockey Spotlight: Skjei | USA Hockey Spotlight: Fasching

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - With four Gopher Hockey alums competing with the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2016 IIHF Men's World Championship in Russia, GopherSports.com caught up with Brady Skjei, Hudson Fasching, Jordan Schroeder and assistant coach Todd Richards during their time in St. Petersburg.

Jordan Schroeder is the third Gopher Hockey alum profiled while the Minnesota Wild forward is making his sixth all-time appearance for USA Hockey. He is a three-time U.S. National Junior Team member including a gold medal in his final appearance in 2010. He also earned two medals with the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team - silver in 2007 and bronze in 2008.

GopherSports.com: You've had a lot of success with USA Hockey in the past…this is your first time competing with the Men's National Team though. What does this team need to do to be successful in this tournament?

Jordan Schroeder: It's going to take a team effort from the whole squad if we want to be successful at this tournament. We know how we need to play to make that happen, and we have a chance to do something special here.

GS: This is actually your sixth time competing for USA Hockey at the international level. How much does it mean to you to represent the country like this?

JS: It never gets old. This is my first time competing with the Men's National Team, but it's always exciting and a big honor to represent your country in international competition. I'm excited to be here, and hopefully we can do well as a team.

GS: You're playing with two other Gopher Hockey alums in Brady Skjei and Hudson Fasching. What have you thought of those two?

JS: We see each other in the offseason, but this is really the first time I've ever played with them other than training. Both of those guys have a lot of upside, and both have bright futures. As an older guy, I want to help them however I can.

GS: Have you had a chance to go out and explore or has it been 100 percent about hockey for you in Russia?

JS: I haven't had a ton of time to explore so far, but (St. Petersburg) is a beautiful city and the people are very friendly and welcoming. We couldn't ask for a better place to play.

Schroeder and Team USA play the Czech Republic in quarterfinal action on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. CT. The game will be televised live on the NBC Sports Network while it will also be streamed on NBC Sports Live Extra.
