Gophers Win Four Titles at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Lyndsey Thorpe and Cami Gilson won their respective events, and two Gophers took home event titles while competing unattached, as the University of Minnesota women's track & field team competed at the Meet of the Un-Saintly hosted by Hamline University Saturday.
Thorpe led the Gophers in the hammer throw as Minnesota claimed the top five places. Thorpe won her second hammer title of the year with a throw of 60.20m (197-06), followed by Ke-ke Burks in second (59.25m, 194-05), and Angie Guenther in third (57.97m, 190-02). Temi Ogunrinde (51.22m, 168-00) and Allie Heifort (46.72m, 153-03) rounded out the top five.
Likewise, Gilson cleared 3.85m (12-07.75) to lead Minnesota with the pole vault title, where unattached Gophers finished second through sixth behind Gilson. Lexi Kiefer (3.85m, 12-07.75) and Allie Funk (3.70m, 12-01.50) used career-best marks to finish second and third, respectively, and Christina Stathakis (3.55m, 11-07.75), Miranda Severin (3.55m, 11-07.75), and Macy Narr (3.40m, 11-01.75) completed the top six.
Also competing unattached, Sophia Anderson won the 400m in 56.82 seconds and Rebecca Wesley won the 800m in 2:17.12. Shay Nielsen finished ninth in the hammer with a career-best throw of 40.33m (132-04) as an unattached competitor as well.
Minnesota begins the championship portion of the outdoor season at the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championship next Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15 hosted by the University of Nebraska. The three-day meet will take place at Ed Weir Stadium on the Nebraska campus. Minnesota looks to build on its third-place team showing at last year's outdoor meet.
