After the Rio Games, Kierra Smith and David Plummer will join the Olympics page in the Golden Gophers' record book. This page goes back to 1924, when John Faricy was part of the Paris Games. In 1964, Virgil Luken and Walter Richardson helped the United States win gold by swimming in the 4x100-meter medley relay qualifying heats.
Eight years later, diver Craig Lincoln claimed another medal for the U.S. as he took bronze on the 3-meter board in Munich. Bengt Zikarsky is the Gophers' most recent men's medalist. He earned bronze for Germany in the 4x100 freestyle relay in both 1992 and 1996, swimming in the heats the first time and the finals the second.
Olga Splichalova was the Minnesota women's first Olympian in 1992 for the Czech Republic. Kelci Bryant currently holds the only medal for the women's program, taking silver in 3-meter synchronized diving at the 2012 Olympics.
