Senior midfielder Josee Stiever led the Gophers' offense with two goals, one assist and three shots on goal. Minnesota tallied five shots on goal total over Utah's two.
In the 26th minute of the game, Stiever found service from Simone Kolander to get Minnesota on the scoreboard.
"When Josee and Simone team up together, it's hard to stop those two," head coach Stefanie Golan said.
The Gophers entered halftime with a 1-0 lead and six shots.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Kolander found the back of the net off a pass from Stiever. The Gophers kept that momentum as Utah was hungry to score.
Stiever capped off her day with another goal in the 82nd minute of the game off an assist from sophomore April Bockin. Minnesota's lead moved to 3-0.
"This team wants to make things happen and us seniors want to leave our mark on the program," Stiever said. "That's how we are approaching each day."
The Minnesota defense was able to handle the Utes' pressure throughout the 90-minute contest. Defender Rashida Beal earned a team save for the Gophers, while goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs came up big for Minnesota and earned her another win to her record.
The 2-0 Gophers will host two matches next weekend. Minnesota will face North Dakota on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:00 p.m., with a matchup against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1:00 p.m. Purchase tickets at mygophersports.com.
