Gophers Shut Out Indiana

The No. 9 University of Minnesota soccer team recorded a 3-0 shutout against Indiana on Friday night at Armstrong Stadium. The Gophers record improves to 8-2-1 (2-0-1) on the season. It was Minnesota's fifth 3-0 win of the season.
"Every day we want to be better," head coach Stefanie Golan. "We started this weekend off with a win, and we will want another on Sunday."
As a team, the Gophers notched 19 shots with eight on goal and had five corner kick opportunities. Nikki Albrecht, April Bockin and Sydney Squires recorded goals in the win.
In the 43rd minute, freshman defender Albrecht scored off a corner kick from Josee Stiever to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The goal was Albrecht's second this season.
Bockin netted her sixth goal of the season to move the Minnesota lead to 2-0. Bockin played a loose ball in the 65th minute of the match.
Squires scored in the 78th minute off an assist from Megan Koenig to put the Gophers up 3-0. The goal marked her second of the season.
Indiana's lone shot on goal came in the 89th minute of the game. Tarah Hobbs grabbed the save to record another shutout on her career.
Minnesota will head to West Lafayette, Ind. next to take on the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT.
