Senior Breanne Siwicki checks in from paradise as the Gophers are making the most of their annual training trip. Siwicki took the above photo and wrote a blog after the first few days off the mainland.
What a time to be alive! The Gophers are taking on the Hawaiian sun with determined attitudes and courageous thoughts. 2017 is a new year for the Golden Gophers. Starting the year off right, all groups practiced the morning of Jan. 1, sprint with a double! Mid-distance and distance had the opportunity to explore one of the nicest beaches in the world, Lanikai!
With swim suit and goggle tans starting to grace the normally pale skin of the Gopher guys and gals, we start each morning at 7 a.m. sharp for a nice two-hour swim, followed by alternating lifting and dry land. Most days we are back in the pool at 4 p.m., to get in another energized workout.
On these days we are given the opportunity to explore the ever expanding Waikiki Beach, which is where we are fortunate enough to stay. This year the new International Market Place has opened, which seniors like myself have watched being built over the last three years. On our days in which we have a single, we take on this vast island and explore everything it has to offer, from alluring beaches to excellent hiking, and of course delicious Hawaiian foods.
As we move through the training camp taking in everything this wonderful space has to offer, we gear up to take on the University of Hawaii in our annual dual meet, along with doing our best to prepare ourselves for the rest of the season. With only 43 days left to go to women's Big Tens, Gophers are getting prepared!
Training Trip practice #1 is in the books! So lucky to have this experience and focus solely on US 〽#SkiUMah pic.twitter.com/V65W96r4Le
