Meet Preview: University of Hawaii

MINNEAPOLIS - The Gophers open the second half of the season as they head to Honolulu, Hawaii for a dual against the University of Hawaii. The competitions start on Saturday, January 7.

LAST SEASON REWIND
Last year against the University of Hawaii, the Gophers captured wins in 19 of 22 events. The women won by a score of 157-79, while the men won by a score of 146-82.

Brooke Zeiger led the women with wins in the 400 individual medley (4:24.13) and the 200 backstroke (2:02.80). Danielle Nack also grabbed two wins at the meet, one in the 50 freestyle (23.52), and one in the 200 butterfly (2:02.68).

Conner McHugh highlighted the men's performances, as he posted a dominant finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:01.65.

LAST TIME OUT
Minnesota closed out the first half of the season with successful performances at the Jean Freeman Invitational on Dec. 2-3. Chantal Nack led the women with a personal record in the 100 back (54.49), while Yu Zhou picked up a win in 3-meter diving (398.10).

Multiple personal bests were set on the men's team, including by Erick Huft in the 100 free (45.03), Tyler Klatt in the 100 back (49.80), Nick Plachinski in the 1,650 freestyle (15:27.39), and Brenner Hohenstein in the 200 breast (1:59.65). Matt Barnard captured the win in 1-meter diving with a score of 385.45.

Members of the team also competed at the AT&T Winter Nationals on Dec. 2-3. Zeiger highlighted the Gopher performances, as she broke the Big Ten record in the 1,650 free with a time of 15:44.00.

NEXT TIME OUT
Following the dual at the University of Hawaii, the Gophers head to Colorado for a dual against Denver on January 13-14.
