The Gophers have four freshmen on this year's roster. This week meet Colton Dee who is equally as impressive in the classroom as he is in the gym. Dee was an Academic All-American from Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho and graduated with high honors, 7th out of 281 students, with a 4.0 all four years. Dee was an All-American gymnast five years in a row and a nine-time Idaho State Gymnastics champion. He is a two-time Junior Olympic National Champion and was chosen to represent Region 2 in the Elite Team Cup Challenge two years in a row. He has scored a 14.9 on P-bars and 14.7 on floor in his career.
Gopher Sports: How is your time on campus so far?
Colton Dee: My time on campus has been fun and exciting. I really enjoy the college atmosphere and being on a Big Ten campus.
GS: What are you most looking forward to in your first school year and season?
CD: I'm looking forward to this year and season to prove what I got and show why I'm a part of the team and the university as a whole. Getting to compete with the team is going to be an experience that not many other things will be able to match. I'm really pumped to see what we accomplish this year as a team. I also look forward to seeing what I accomplish as an individual in my academic life.
GS: What has it been like to meet your teammates?
CD: The team is amazing. Such a good group of guys who are focused and dedicated on gymnastics and school. I'm glad to be a part of this team and look forward to contributing to the team culture.
GS: What is your favorite gymnastics event?
CD: My favorite event has to be a tie between rings and high bar.
GS: Favorite gymnastics memory?
CD: My favorite gymnastics memories have been competing in a large scale meet. The last two years I got to participate in the Elite Team Cup which was a big meet with teams representing all the regions around the United State. It was on podium so that was a really cool experience to name just one.
GS: What do you enjoy doing outside of gymnastics?
CD: Outside of gymnastics I enjoy being active as well as spending quality time with family and friends. I also enjoy bingewatching Netflix shows occasionally.
GS: What is one thing Gopher fans should know about you?
CD: Something Gopher fans should know about me is that I like when the crowd gets loud so come out and support the Gopher men's gymnastics team!
