Ryba Advances to Round of 16

ITA CENTRAL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT HUB
Caroline Ryba continued her run in the ITA Central Regional tournament in both doubles and singles with three victories on Friday for the University of Minnesota women's tennis team.
Ryba advanced in a pair of straight sets singles victories over Hayley Haakenstad of Nebraska and Carolina Costamagna of Kansas State.
Ryba also paired with freshman River Hart in the doubles tournament and advanced to the round of 16 with an 8-1 dominant victory over Maffei/Mesquita of Kansas State. Ryba will look to advance to her second and third final eight at the ITA regionals.
Along with Ryba/Hart, Karyna Bihel and Camila Vargas Gomez advanced to the round of 16 in the doubles bracket with an 8-3 victory over Ishimura/Rosette of Creighton. They will take on a pair from Missouri tomorrow.
In other singles play, Tina Kreinis advanced to the round of 32 with a victory over Tatiana Nikolaeva of Kansas 6-3, 7-5. She then fell in the next round in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
Caitlyn Merzbacher was unable to comeback in her first singles match of the day when she fell 1-6, 6-3, 5-7 against Zoe Douglas of the University of Iowa.
Other notable performers in singles were Kalyssa Hall and Barbara Mancera who each fell in straight sets in the singles draw. They both fell to the consolation brackets after their loss. Annemarie Emme also dropped her singles match in straight sets with a tough 7-6, 7-5 defeat to Ines Mesquita of Kansas State.
The pair of Kreinis/Merzbacher also dropped their doubles match earlier in the day by a score of 8-4.
Overall the Gophers finished with a 2-1 doubles record and a 3-5 singles record.
