MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Two-time Big Ten Goaltender of the Year Eric Schierhorn has been tabbed the Big Ten First Star of the Week after leading the No. 5 Gopher Hockey program to its first sweep of the year last weekend.
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Schierhorn backstopped Minnesota to a 3-1 win and a 2-1 win over then No. 9 Clarkson, making 44 saves on 46 shots in the series. The junior led the Big Ten in save percentage (.957) and goals against average (1.00) over the weekend and now holds a 5-3-0 record on the year with all eight games coming against nationally ranked opponents.
Schierhorn has started all 83 games since arriving on campus - a figure that leads all active NCAA goaltenders and ranks seventh all-time in NCAA history. The netminder owns a 48-32-3 career record with the Gophers and needs two wins to crack Minnesota's all-time top-10 wins list.
Minnesota continues a four-game homestand next weekend when Michigan State visits 3M Arena at Mariucci. Single-game tickets, season tickets and flexible Pick-Your-Packs are currently available at GopherSports.com, by calling 1-800-U-Gopher or by stopping by the ticket office at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
