Padington Earns B1G Weekly Honor

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Freshman Mackenzie Padington collected her second career Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the Big Ten Conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Padington had impressive swims this past weekend at the Minnesota Invite posting three NCAA B standard times in her respective events. The Campbell River, B.C. native set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle in her fourth collegiate 200 free swim. She placed first in a time of 1:44.15, which also ranks her eighth on the Big Ten 200 free all-time performance list as well as the ninth fastest swim in the NCAA this season. In the 500 free, her first-place time of 4:38.54, which was the second fastest 500 free swim in the Big Ten this past weekend and is also the 10th fastest in the NCAA this season. Padington also captured a second place finish just behind teammate Zoe Avestruz in the 100 free touching the wall at 48.45.

The No. 16 Minnesota Golden Gophers captured a first place finish this past weekend at the Minnesota Invite scoring a team total of 1,360.5 points. They return to the water on January 6 in the Aloha State as they take on Hawai'i in a dual meet.
