Gophers Post Strong Opening Round

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Minnesota women's golf team posted the fourth-best team score of the day, opening play at the Florida State Match Up Friday at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course.
Minnesota carded a one-over-par 289, trailing just three teams. Paired up with fellow Big Ten member Michigan State, the Gophers and Spartans combined for a team score of 367, fourth among the groupings.
Junior Heather Ciskowski and sophomore Muyu Wu each placed among the top-10 individually, firing one-under-par 71s in the opening round. The duo is tied for 10th. Two shots back was senior Emie Peronnin, who tied for 22nd at one-over-par 73. Sabrine Garrison was one shot behind, as the junior tied for 29nd at two-over-par 74.
Sophomore Maggie Heggerston rounded out the Gopher lineup, placing 58th at eight-over-par 80.
Fellow sophomore Niamh Ward, competing individually, tied for 62nd with a score of 81.
Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk holds the individual lead at six-under-par 72, while South Carolina is atop the team leaderboard at -10.
