Gophers Handle Rutgers 80-46

The Gophers outshot the Scarlet Knights 41.8 percent to 29 percent, and outrebounded them 42-39. Minnesota shot 27-of-34 (79.4 percent) from the free throw line, including an 11-of-12 performance by Bell.
Shrita Parker led Rutgers with 11 points. Jazlynd Rollins added 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter: Minnesota held Rutgers to five points in the first period, the lowest quarter total by a Gophers opponent in Big Ten play this year. The Gophers led 19-5. In the first two minutes of the game, Taiye Bello scored the Gophers' first four points and took a charge. Bell scored seven points in the first, including a fastbreak basket off of her own steal.
Second Quarter: The Gophers led by as much as 18 but the Scarlet Knights ended the half on a 7-0 run to cut Minnesota's advantage to 31-20. Seventeen of the Gophers' first-half points came off turnovers.
Third Quarter: Minnesota put together an 8-0 run over two-plus minutes to lead 43-25. After Rutgers snapped its drought, Wagner and Hubbard made back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 49-27 with 2:27 to go in the third. Two Whitney Tinjum free throws put the Maroon and Gold up 56-33 in the last four seconds of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Hubbard scored 10 of her points in the fourth, going 3-for-3 from the 3-point line, as the Gophers kept the Scarlet Knights at bay.
MORE NOTES
*Minnesota have won their last two meetings with Rutgers, both at home.
*Wagner and Bell each have 23 double-digit scoring games. Hubbard 11 in her 18 games played.

Minnesota will return to the court in two games when it hosts Northwestern on Monday night. The 6 p.m. game will feature a gold t-shirt giveaway for the first 1,000 fans.
