MINNEAPOLIS - Director of women's track & field and cross country Matt Bingle shares expectations and events to watch for at this weekend's Big Ten Conference Indoor Championship.

On expectations for the Big Ten Championship...

Bingle: I'm very excited. It will be fun to see how the meet plays out. I just want our team to go out there and be themselves, compete how they know how to, and do what they're capable of doing. They've shown us that they can do that. We want them to be who they have been, and everything will work out.

On the team's Big Ten roster...

Bingle: There are a lot of freshmen and sophomores and newcomers to the Big Ten meet who we're excited to have compete at that level for the first time. Nina Horvath, Temi Ogunrinde, some kids on the relays, they will make their Big Ten debuts, and that's a good thing. We have a lot of experienced juniors and seniors, too. It's a good mix. That's what makes it exciting. There are a lot of people who are going to compete well and others who are right on the verge who will gain some really good experience this week.

On the events to watch for the Gophers in at the Big Ten Championship...

Bingle: It's Big Ten week, so we're excited for everybody. It's a great team weekend. It's always fun. In terms of individuals to watch for, we're obviously excited for Madeline Strandemo. She's had a great season and continues to get better each week. I know Coach Hopkins and the team are excited to watch her run. We're all excited to see the throwers compete, too.

There's a lot to be excited about across the board. Both throws, high jump, pole vault, triple jump, hurdles, 400m, 4x400m relay -- there are a lot of events and people for us to be excited about. There are a lot of cool things happening, and everyone feels good. There are a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. There are a lot of great individuals on this team and a lot of great individuals who are going to keep getting better beyond this weekend. This is another step in the process that we're excited about taking.

On the team's approach to the Big Ten Championship...

Bingle: I'm very excited. I'm anxious to see how they all do. The team is geling together well, and we have a lot of great individuals across the board in every event. That's what we're trying to do, we want to be balanced. There are a lot of people who have been there before who will lead the younger ones. We're in a good spot heading into the meet.
