MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - After allowing one goal over the weekend as the No. 4/5 Gopher Hockey team captured a fourth-straight Big Ten title, sophomore goaltender Eric Schierhorn has been named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week.

A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Schierhorn repeated as both the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year and a First Team All-Big Ten selection on Monday after helping the Maroon & Gold make NCAA history over the weekend with the program's sixth-straight overall regular-season conference title.

Among goalies who played multiple games over the weekend, Schierhorn led the nation with a .980 save percentage and a goals against average of 0.48. He made 50 saves on 51 shots in Minnesota's series with Michigan State, playing all 125 minutes for the Gophers. His 24-save shutout on Friday night helped clinch the 2017 Big Ten regular-season championship for Minnesota.

This season, the sophomore leads the Big Ten with 23 wins (tied for third in NCAA), five shutouts (tied for fourth in NCAA) and 899 saves.

This is the fourth Big Ten weekly honor of the season for Schierhorn and his seventh career accolade.

The top-seeded Gophers (23-10-3 overall, 14-5-1-0 Big Ten) now head to the 2017 Big Ten Tournament at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, where they'll play the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal matchup between Penn State and Michigan. Minnesota's semifinal game is slated for Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. CT.
