Gophers in the Polls: March 15

March 15, 2017 Several Golden Gopher programs are heading into their postseason ranked, while Minnesota softball and men's gymnastics are having strong seasons.
#5 Women's Hockey
Last Week: The Gophers' 1-0 win over No. 3 seed Minnesota Duluth was the closest game of the four NCAA quarterfinal match-ups. The win punched Minnesota's ticket to the program's sixth-straight NCAA Women's Frozen Four.
This Week: Minnesota will continue its quest for a historic third-straight NCAA national championship by making its 13th appearance at the NCAA Women's Frozen Four this week. The Golden Gophers (26-7-5) face No. 2 seed Clarkson (30-4-5) in Friday's second national semifinal game, set for 8 p.m. CT at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
#5 Men's Hockey
Last Week: Minnesota won an unprecedented sixth-straight regular-season conference championship, a NCAA record for men's hockey. The Gophers topped Michigan in a 4-0 win to secure the title. The Gophers went on to a 1-1 overtime tie with Michigan State before falling in a three-round shootout.
This Week: The Gophers will travel to Detroit, Mich. for the Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. They are slated to face either Michigan or Penn State, depending on who wins in the first round. The game will take place Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. CT.
#5 Men's Gymnastics
Last Week: Minnesota earned wins over Big Ten foe Iowa and the Arizona State club team with a score of 411.200. Sophomore Justin Karstadt was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for his all-around performance.
This Week: The Gophers will host the University of Illinois at Chicago in the season's home finale this Saturday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. CT. The team will also honor the program's seniors, Zach Liebler and Mitchell Soukup.
#8/9 Softball
Last Week: Minnesota began its spring break by adding another win one to their program record win streak with a 7-0 beat down of Seattle, before falling in a 3-2 battle against Washington. The Gophers picked two more wins over Seattle (14-6), and South Dakota (8-0). They closed the weekend with a 9-0 loss to Washington.
This Week: The Gophers have continued their trip out on the West Coast. Minnesota has already picked up a 6-0 win over Oregon State. The team will play a game against California on Wednesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. CT followed by a double-header against Pacific with game times set for Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. CT.
#10 Wrestling
Last Week: For the 20th time in the past 21 years, Minnesota finished among the top five in the nation's toughest conference tournament after taking fifth at the Big Ten Championships with 93 points.
This Week: The Gophers will compete at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. with sessions running from March 16-18. Nine Minnesota wrestlers automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in two weeks.They will comprise the largest Minnesota contingent in the event since 2014.
#19 Women's Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The Gophers qualified three divers at the NCAA Zone D diving meet last week in Missouri. Among that group is the 2015 3-meter National Champion Yu Zhou.
This Week: Ten Minnesota swimmers and divers will compete in individual events at this week's NCAA Championships, and all five Golden Gopher relays will race. The national meet is set for Wednesday, March 15 through Saturday, March 18 in Indianapolis.
#20 Men's Swimming and Diving
Last Week: Minnesota qualified two divers at the NCAA Zone D diving meet, including All-American Matt Barnard.
This Week: The men's team will have a week of training before heading to Indianapolis for the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet will run from Wednesday, March 22 through Saturday, March 25.
