TAMPA, Fla. - Members of the University of Minnesota women's track & field team kicked off the team's 2017 outdoor slate at the Bulls Invitational at USF Track & Field Stadium on Friday.

The two-day meet continues Saturday, but Minnesota competed in the hammer throw and javelin so far on day one Friday.

All five Gophers finished in the top eight and four Gophers recorded career-best marks in the hammer throw led by Angie Guenther and Temi Ogunrinde. Guenther threw 60.79m (199-05) to finish as runner-up and move into fifth in program history while Ogunrinde was third with a throw of 58.46m (191-09) to move into 10th all-time.

Agnes Esser took fourth with a throw of 58.07m (190-06), and Nina Horvath (55.00m, 180-05) and Allie Heifort (51.38m, 168-07) each recorded PRs in sixth and eighth place, respectively.

Gopher heptathletes Sofie Albrechtsen and Kayla Nelson competed in the javelin and long jump on day one of the Bulls Invitational. Albrechtsen (32.58m, 106-11) placed eighth and Nelson (23.08m, 75-09) took 11th in her javelin debut.

In the long jump, both Gophers recorded outdoor collegiate-best marks. Albrechtsen posted a mark of 5.22m (17-01.50) for seventh place, and Nelson took 10th with a leap of 4.99m (16-04.50).

Action continues at 9 a.m. CT at the Bulls Invitational, beginning with Kiley Sabin, Shay Nielsen, and Heifort in the shot put. Running events are scheduled to start with the 4x100-meter relay at 10 a.m. CT.
