Gophers Fall to Penn State

University Park, Penn. - The University of Minnesota fell in their second conference match of the season 4-3 to Penn State Friday at Sarni Indoor Courts.
Doubles
Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei were the first to finish as they fell to Devan McCluskey and Shannon Hanley 6-1 from the No. 2 doubles spot.
From the No. 1 spot, Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher won their match over Jacqueline Zuhse and Bennett Dunn 6-4. Penn State clinched the doubles point with a Katia Blik and Samantha Smith 7-6 victory over Annemarie Emme and Camila Vargas Gomez.
Singles
Minnesota fell down 2-0 when Emme was defeated by Smith 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot but Tina Kreinis got the Gophers on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Devan McCluskey from the No. 2 spot.
Maja Vujic tied the match 2-2 with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Hanley in the No. 5 spot then Vargas Gomez fell to Dunn 6-4, 7-6 to put the Nittany Lions up 3-2.
Penn State clinched the winning point when Blik defeated Ryba in the No. 1 spot 6-4, 6-2. Barbara Mancera finished off the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 victory over Zuhse from the No. 3 spot.
