Minneapolis, Minn. - The Dairy Queen Classic returns for its 30th year as Minnesota hosts Hawaii, Iowa and Oral Roberts at U.S. Bank Stadium for the tournament.

After a four-year hiatus the Dairy Queen classic returns to Minneapolis as the tournament will take place in U.S. Bank Stadium. The return of the tournament also marks the 12th year that Dairy Queen has been the title sponsor which started in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The Dairy Queen Classic has had 145 Major League players participate in the tournament and was one of the first televised regular-season college baseball games on ESPN in 1989.

Some of the events at this year's Dairy Queen Classic include:

  • Saturday, March 4 - Kids Day: The Kids clinic will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will take place on the field. The clinic is open to kids eighth grade and under. There will be four stations set up on the outfield (hitting, pitching, fielding and pop flies) where kids get to work with coaches and players. The clinic is free with the purchase of a ticket to the Gopher game that night.
  • Sunday, March 5 - Minnesota Day: We celebrate the University of Minnesota on the final day of the tournament as the Gophers take on Iowa. Students and facility/staff get in free with one guest with their U-Card. Come out and show your Minnesota Pride!
  • There will be vouchers for free dilly bars during the tournament. The offer is valid at U.S. Bank Stadium while supplies last. Get to the games early to make sure you have one!
  • Fans can redeem a voucher for the $20 Family 4-Pack at U.S. Bank Stadium the day of the event. $20 (plus processing fees) for four tickets to any of the DQ Baseball Classic games! The DQ Family Pack is valid at U.S. Bank Stadium. Get the voucher here.

About Minnesota
The Gophers are 4-2 this season (3-1 at U.S. Bank Stadium) and will play Hawaii Thursday night before the tournament. After splitting a two-game series versus UC Irvine, Minnesota swept Seattle University in a three-game series and fell to North Dakota State Tuesday.
Luke Pettersen leads the team with a .667 batting average after 21 plate appearances while Toby Hanson and Micah Coffey lead the squad with seven RBIs. Two home runs have been hit by the Maroon and Gold, one by Eduardo Estrada, Jr. and Matt Stemper. Minnesota has hit eleven doubles and five triples this season.

Minnesota's freshmen pitchers have had solid starts to their careers. Bret Schulze is 1-0 after making two appearances (one start) and has a 3.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in 9.0 innings. Nolan Burchill made his collegiate debut Tuesday night, retiring the first ten batters he faced. He ended up going 4.1 innings allowing one earned run and striking out six batters. Alex Farley has made two appearances out of the bullpen where he is 1-0 with five strikeouts and has only allowed one hit.

Senior Tim Shannon has made four appearances out of the bullpen for 4.1 innings had has only allowed one earned run and has two strikeouts. Senior closer Brian Glowicki has picked up three saves this season with five strikeouts.

About Hawaii
The Rainbow Warriors come to Minneapolis after posting a 3-4 record to begin the season. Josh Rojas leads the team with a .250 batting average while Brendan Hormung has a 1.20 ERA. Hawaii and Minnesota will play a game on Thursday night before the tournament.

About Iowa
The Hawkeyes are 4-3 this season after losing two games to South Florida then defeating Loras College. Iowa played in the Hoover Classic, splitting two games with Alabama State and winning their last one versus Morehead state. Their game against Cornell College on Tuesday was canceled. Mason McCoy leads the team with a .407 batting average along with one home run, seven RBIs and two stolen bases. Iowa's top starter is Nick Gallagher who 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14.0 innings.

About Oral Roberts
The Golden Eagles are off to a hot start to the season, posting a 7-1 record. They started off with a three-game sweep of Little Rock then fell to Missouri State. Oral Roberts bounced back with a three-game sweep at Alabama then defeated Kansas 12-1 Thursday. Noah Cummings leads the Golden Eagles with a .469 batting average along with four home runs and 13 RBIs. As a team, Oral Roberts has hit nine home runs so far this season. Josh McMinn leads the starters with a 1.50 ERA. He is 1-0 in two starts and has struck out nine batters.
