Minnesota Falls to Iowa

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell Sunday to Iowa, 4-2 for their second Big Ten loss of the season.
The Gophers are now 10-7 overall this season and 2-2 in conference play. This was only the fourth home loss at Baseline Tennis Center for Minnesota.
Doubles
Annemarie Emme and Camila Vargas Gomez began the match with a quick take down at spot No. 3 defeating Aimee Tarun and Natalie Looney 6-3.
Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei followed suit, downing Anastasia Reimchen and Montana Crawford at the No. 2 spot and clinching the doubles point for the Maroon and Gold with a 6-4 victory.
Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher's match went unfinished after the point was clinched, the duo was leading 5-4 over No. 80 Elise Van Heuvelen and Zoe Douglas in the No. 1 spot.
Singles
At spot No. 1, Ryba fell to Iowa's Van Heuvelen, 6-1, 6-1, tying the match at 1-1. Emme fell at spot No. 4, 6-4, 6-3, to give the Hawkeyes a 2-1 advantage.
Tina Kreinis tallied the first singles win of the match for the Gophers at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-2 over Douglas. After winning in the second set, Barbara Mancera fell 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to Reimchen in the No. 3 spot.
After a tie-break in the first set at spot No. 6, Safdar fell 7-6 (7), 6-4 to Montana Crawford, securing the victory for Iowa.
In the No. 5 spot Vargas Gomez's match versus Turan was unfinished with the score 7-5, 3-6, 2-3 to end the day.
