Minnesota Dominates in Border Battle

Minneapolis, Minn. -- Minnesota women's tennis won their seventh consecutive Border Battle, sweeping Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center, 7-0.
Doubles
Annemarie Emme and Camila Vargas Gomez opened the match dominating at spot No. 3, 6-1. Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher quickly followed suit, downing Maria Avgerinos and Marissa Pick of Wisconsin, 6-1, clinching the doubles point for the Gophers.
Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei did not finish their match, with the final score tallying 4-4 at spot No. 2.
Singles
Emme kept up her win streak on the match with the first singles victory of the day, 6-4, 6-1. Tina Kreinis follows Emme immediately, downing Kelsey Grambeau sweeping the second set, 6-4, 6-0.
At spot No. 5, Maja Vujic clinched the seventh consecutive Border Battle win for the Maroon and Gold, 6-2, 6-3. Barbara Mancera pulled out the win in two sets over Michelle Linden, 6-3, 7-5.
At spot No. 6, Vargas Gomez added to the Gophers advantage of now 6-0, winning her match in two sets, as well, 6-2, 6-2. Ryba grabs the final victory of the match at spot No. 1 after winning the match tie-break, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (5).
