Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota won an extra inning thriller over 7-2 Oral Roberts Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium to kick off the 30th Dairy Queen Classic.

The Gophers fell down early after the Golden Eagles put up two runs in the top of the second inning. That lead was short lived with Minnesota scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Micah Coffey walked to start off the inning then quickly advanced to second base on a Toby Hanson single. After an Alex Boxwell fly out, Jordan Smith walked leaving the bases full for Eduardo Estrada, Jr. who struck out swinging. Cole McDevitt followed that up with a walk of his own that brought in Coffey.

After an Oral Roberts pitching change Ben Mezzenga was the third batter of the inning to walk which resulted in a tied game with Hanson scoring. The inning was ended when Luke Pettersen grounded out to second base.

It was a pitcher's dual up until the top of the ninth inning when Oral Roberts tied the game with a solo home run to left field. It took until the bottom of the 13th inning for the Gophers to win on a McDevitt sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Boxwell who walked to lead off the inning.

Minnesota's pitching was strong throughout the game, at one point retiring 16 straight batters. Southpaw Lucas Gilbreath started on the mound for the Maroon and Gold and went 6.0 innings, allowing only one hit, two runs (zero earned) and struck out five batters.

Jackson Rose took over for Gilbreath in the seventh inning. Rose went 2.0 strong innings where he did not allow a run and struck out two batters. Brian Glowicki game into the ninth inning looking for the save but allowed the game tying home run. He went 2.0 innings allowing two hits, one earned run and struck out two batters.

Nick Lackney picked up his first win of the season as he threw 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. He did not allow a hit in the extra innings and had three strikeouts.

The Gophers play their second game of the Dairy Queen Classic tomorrow as they host Hawaii for the second time at U.S. Bank Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
