Gophers Set for Big Five Meet

The Golden Gophers will compete in the Big Five meet in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m. Minnesota will face Iowa, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers--teams that Gophers have not yet faced in the regular season.
ABOUT THE FIVE
The are two five-team meets that serve to determine the Big Ten Conference's regular season champion. The event also determines which teams will competing in Session I and Session II at the 2017 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships. Session I will feature the bottom four teams, while the top six will compete in Session II. The other Big Five meet will feature Illinois, Maryland Michigan State, Nebraska and Ohio State in Champaign, Ill.
LAST TIME OUT
Minnesota topped BYU on senior night at the Sports Pavilion, 196.050-195.000. For the second straight weekend, the Gophers claimed gold on each event. Senior Bailey Abernathy won vault (9.875) and floor (9.950), Bailie Holst claimed first on bars (9.875), and Ciara Gardner earned top marks on beam (9.875) and all-around (39.400). Abernathy was named Big Ten Co-Event Specialist of the Week for her performances.
HALF AND HALF
With the spring semester addition of Mary Korlin-Downs, the Gophers' roster is now composed of nine newcomers and nine returners. With such a young team, Minnesota's lineups have seen a big shift. Freshmen Julia Huebert, Ivy Lu, Kristen Quaglia and Paige Williams have each seen action in their respective events.
