Gophers Grab 11 Titles at Tomcat Twilight

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (GopherSports.com) - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program picked up 11 individual titles on Thursday night at the Tomcat Twilight - hosted by St. Thomas at Hamline's Klas Field.
Three members of the Maroon & Gold picked up personal records to go with their wins including true freshman Luke May's victory in the javelin. The rookie hit 59.72 meters (195-11 ft.) to not only pick up his first win with the program, but also move into ninth all-time on Minnesota's top performers list. Fellow Gophers freshman Logan Wolfley was the runner-up at 56.62 meters (185-09 ft.).
The Gophers also posted the top-two finishers in the 100 meters, led by Brad Neumann's first-place showing at 10.44 - a new personal record. He was followed by Jonathan Webb at 10.56 while Minnesota alum Gemechu Godi was in third at 10.70 and Quinton Coleman came in fourth at 10.75.
Minnesota's third winner with a personal record was Jon Tollefson in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.27 -- bumping Tollefson up to seventh all-time at Minnesota. Eric Walker came in second at 14.83.
Meanwhile, the Gophers went 1-2 in a number of other events on Thursday evening. Glen Harold picked up his third pole vault win of the outdoor season at 4.91 meters (16-01.25 ft.) while Tyler Tappe was the runner-up at 4.76 meters (15-07.25 ft.).
Minnesota added top-two finishes in the high jump as Nick Bachinksi won the event at 2.06 meters (6-09.00 ft.) followed by unattached freshman Ben Gucinski at 1.90 meters (6-02.75 ft.).
Jordan Charles led the way in the triple jump for his first individual title of the outdoor season, clearing 14.38 meters (47-02.25 ft.). James Travis was the runner-up at 14.23 meters (46-08.25 ft.).
Obsa Ali paced six Gophers in the top-nine of the 1,500 meters with his winning time of 3:51.84. Evan Ferlic was the runner-up at 3:52.90 while Wayde Hall finished third at 3:53.01. Connor Olson came in fifth at 3:54.13 with Eric Colvin and Matt Welch finishing eighth and ninth, respectively.
Matthew Baker won the 400-meter hurdles at 54.35.
Unattached freshman added three more titles to the Gophers' haul on Thursday at Klas Field.
Kieran McKeag led the way in the shot put at 16.62 meters (54-06.50 ft.) and added a third-place finish in the hammer throw at 55.74 meters (182-10 ft.) behind Jon Nerdal's winning toss of 58.58 meters (192-02 ft.) and Mac Riedy's runner-up finish at 55.77 meters (183-00 ft.).
Unattached freshman Chris Trotter won the 800 meters (1:51.85) while Josh Tracy came in third (1:52.70) and Matt Rosen finished fourth (1:52.89).
Additionally, Nate Roese finished second in the 400 meters (48.16) while unattached freshman Nick Rink came in second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Jonathan Tharaldsen finished third in both the shot put and the discus. Sammie Houston finished fourth in the long jump.
