Minnesota Falls in Final Match of the Weekend

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The University of Minnesota fell 6-1 to No. 9 Michigan Sunday in their fifth Big Ten match of the season.
The Gophers are now 10-9 overall this season and 2-3 in conference play. On the road, Minnesota has posted a 3-5 record while they are 7-4 at Baseline Tennis Center.
Doubles
The day started out with Annemarie Emme and Tina Kreinis defeating Chiara Lommer and Kate Fahey 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. This was the first time the Minnesota pair played together in dual matches but posted a 3-5 record together in the fall.
The doubles matches were tied up when No. 43 Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook took down Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safdar 6-3 from the No. 1 spot.
With the doubles point on the line, Cammy Frei and Caroline Ryba went to a tiebreaker with Alex Najarian and Annie Wierda. The Gophers came out victorious with a 7-6 (4) victory to go ahead 1-0.
Ryba and Frei improved to 19-9 overall this season and 10-6 in dual matches. This was their first time playing in the No. 3 spot.
Singles
Emme finished first as she was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by No. 106 Lommer in the No. 4 spot tying the match 1-1. Camila Vargas Gomez was then defeated by Ruder-Hook in the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-3.
The Wolverines took a 3-1 lead after Ryba fell in the No. 1 spot to No. 31 Minor 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. The No. 3 spot proved to be the match clincher for Michigan as Najarian defeated Maja Vujic 6-3, 7-6 (2).
Kreinis hung with No. 18 Fahey but fell in the No. 2 spot 7-5, 6-3. The day ended as Caitlyn Merzbacher fell in the third set to Wierda 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
Up Next
The Gophers will be hosted by Tulsa Saturday at 12:00 p.m. central time before finishing off the regular season with five conference matches.
