Action Continues at KU Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Day three at the Kansas Relays saw the University of Minnesota women's track & field team compete in the discus final and collegiate preliminary heats in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, and 400-meter dash as well as opening competition in this weekend's quadrangular meet.
In the discus, Kiley Sabin finished fourth with a throw of 49.94m (163-10). Incoming junior Nayoka Clunis, currently a sophomore at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kan., finished eighth with a throw of 47.34m (155-04) as well.
Four Gophers advanced to Saturday's collegiate finals. Rachel Schow won her heat of the 100m hurdles in 13.92 seconds to move on, and Sophia Anderson clocked a preliminary time of 57.71 seconds in the 400m to advance to finals. Emma Spagnola won her heat of the 400-meter hurdles in 59.15, and Lindsey Smits recorded her fourth PR in as many races with a time of 1:01.06 to join Spagnola in the 400m hurdles final.
The Gophers are also competing head-to-head with host Kansas, California, and Southern Illinois in a quadrangular meet alongside the collegiate heats at the Kansas Relays this week, beginning with Friday's hammer throw.
A day after taking the top four places in the collegiate hammer throw, the Gophers finished fourth through seventh in the same event for the quadrangular meet. Agnes Esser led the way in fourth with a throw of 59.64m (195-08). Temi Ogunrinde (59.41m, 194-11), Angie Guenther (56.95m, 186-10), and Nina Horvath (56.95m, 186-10) rounded out the top seven.
Action at the Kansas Relays continues Saturday with the Gophers competing in both the collegiate finals and the quadrangular meet.
