Gophers Earn Two Titles at Simpson College

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Caitlin Dillon won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the Gophers' 4x400-meter relay claimed top honors as members of the University of Minnesota women's track & field distance squad competed at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College Friday evening.
Dillon recorded her second career-best time in as many races to lead the way in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking a winning time of 11:10.92. Fellow Gopher Megan Flanagan finished fourth in a season-best 11:24.98.
The Gophers' 4x400m relay team of Anne Haakenstad, Paige Peschel, Amelia Barczi, and Samantha Prouty also won in 4:05.28, defeating runner-up Dubuque by over 15 seconds (4:20.98).
Minnesota took five of the top six places in the 800-meter run, led by Peschel's career-best time of 2:13.96 as runner-up. Abby Lange (career-best 2:14.19), Haakenstad (2:14.63), Barczi (career-best 2:15.57), and Tess Wasowicz (career-best 2:16.19) rounded out the top six.
Prouty also posted a sixth-place showing in the 1,500-meter run, recording a time of 4:45.26 in a field of 60 runners.
Rounding out the evening for the Gophers were Courtney Alama and Sarah Klecker in the 5,000-meter run. Alama recorded a career-best time of 17:39.15 for seventh place while Klecker took 11th in 17:53.18 in a field of 43 finishers.
Minnesota's hammer throwers also competed Friday, opening competition at the Longhorn Invitational, which continues on Saturday. Members of the team are competing locally at the Janis Rider Invitational hosted by Macalester College Saturday as well.
