AUSTIN, Texas - Taylor Wiebke set a new program record in the high jump and the Golden Gophers won five event titles as the Minnesota women's track & field team finished second in the team standings at the Longhorn Invitational Saturday.
Wiebke cleared 1.85m (6-00.75) to break Minnesota's program record, which was previously held by Liz Roehrig at 1.83m (6-00.00) since 2008. Wiebke cleared 1.82m (5-11.50) on her second attempt for a new PR before making it over 1.85m on her first attempt to win the event and set a new program record. Heta Tuuri finished as runner-up with a season-best jump of 1.79m (5-10.50) as well.
Minnesota finished second to host Texas in the team standings as the Longhorns posted 141 points and the Gophers finished with 134 points. TCU (97), UTSA (75), and Stanford (51) rounded out the top five.
Along with Wiebke's high jump win, the Gophers picked up first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, discus, and unseeded section of the pole vault on Saturday after winning the hammer throw on Friday.
The Gophers took the top two spots in the 100m hurdles as Kimberly Golding and Emma Spagnola led the way yet again. The duo's one-two finish marked the fourth time they have finished first and second in the 100m hurdles this season. With a 5.0 m/s wind at their backs, both posted would-be career-best marks as Golding ran 12.87 seconds and Spagnola finished in 13.06 seconds.
Emerald Egwim won the 400m in 53.19 seconds in just her second open 400m race of the season. Bolade Jinadu (career-best 55.71) and Kat Keller (55.93) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, as well.
After taking the top four places in the hammer throw on Friday, Minnesota's throwers secured the top-three places in the discus. Agnes Esser picked up her second title of the weekend with a throw of 54.10m (177-06) after winning hammer with a career-best throw of 61.66m (202-03) on Friday.
Behind Esser, Kiley Sabin (53.57m, 175-09) and Angie Guenther (51.07m, 167-06) finished second and third, respectively, with career-best marks. Along with her runner-up showing at the Longhorn Invite, Sabin moved into ninth on Minnesota's all-time list. She posted a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.21m (49-11) as well.
Rounding out the Gophers' event titles was Lexi Kiefer, who won the unseeded section of the pole vault with a career-best mark of 4.00m (13-01.50) to move into a tie for eighth in Minnesota history. Competing in the seeded section, Cami Gilson placed ninth (3.77m, 12-04.50).
Shanique Wright used a season-best mark of 12.78m (41-11.25) to finish as triple jump runner-up, securing eight points in the team race.
Along with the group competing at the Longhorn Invitational, Minnesota had distance runners racing at the Drake Relays on Thursday and the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday. Members of the team also competed locally at the Janis Rider Invitational hosted by Macalester College on Saturday.
