Gophers Fall to No. 35 Tulsa

Tulsa, Okla. - No. 35 Tulsa defeated the University of Minnesota by a score of 6-1 Saturday afternoon in the final non-conference match of the season for the Maroon and Gold.

The Gophers are now 10-10 overall on the 2017 spring season and 2-4 in Big Ten play.

Doubles
The first match of the day to finish was in the No. 2 spot where Rongrong Leenabanchong and Mahitha Dadireddy took down the Minnesota pair of Annemarie Emme and Tina Kreinis 6-2.

Tulsa then clinched the doubles point with a Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner 6-4 victory over Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei from the No. 3 position.

The No. 1 spot featuring Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher taking on Ksenia Laskutova and Mahitha Dadireddy was left unfinished with Minnesota duo leading 4-3.

Singles
The Golden Hurricane took a 2-0 lead when Marcelina Cichon began singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Merzbacher in the No. 5 spot.

The next match to finish was the No. 2 spot where Kreinis fell 6-2, 6-2 to Leenabanchong then Tulsa clinched the win when Dadireddy defeated Maja Vujic 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.

Emme then fell in the No. 4 spot to Martina Okalova 6-2, 6-2 but then Ryba picked up Minnesota's point from the No. 1 spot. The junior faced Laskutova, picking up a 6-1 win in the first set then falling in the second set 4-6. The two battled until Ryba won the third set 10-8. This marked Ryba's tenth victory of the dual match season.

The day ended with the No. 6 spot where Camila Vargas Gomez took on Vera Ploner. After falling in the first set 7-5, Vargas Gomez won the second set 7-5. The sophomore ended up falling in the final set 10-0.
