Justin Doeden will represent the Golden Gophers at the NCAA Stanford Regional May 15-17. There will be 18 holes per day. The top five teams, and top individual not on one of those teams, will advance to the NCAA Championships (May 26-31) at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Doeden is making his first NCAA Regional appearance. The senior from Prior Lake, Minn., spent his first two collegiate seasons at NAIA Cardinal Stritch before transferring to his home state's flagship university.
Entering Monday's round, Doeden carries the Gophers' No. 4 season scoring average on record. He leads the team with an average of 71.87, an improvement of two-plus strokes from last year.
The field: Doeden is one of 10 individuals participating in the Stanford Regional. The others are Collin Morikawa (California), Hayden Shieh (Santa Clara), David Kim (UC Irvine), Andres Gonzalez (Long Beach State), Felix Mory (Cal State Northridge), Fidel Concepcion (Southern Utah), Grant Booth (Nevada), Brian Humphreys (Boise State) and Mike Graboyes (Cornell).
Competing teams in order of seeding are Stanford, Baylor, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Pepperdine, North Carolina, North Florida, BYU, Houston, Ohio State, UC Santa Barbara, Sacramento State and South Dakota State.
The course: Stanford Golf Course will play at 6,727 yards and a par of 70. The course was designed in 1930 by William Bell and George C. Thomas. Since then, a few holes have undergone redesign. Stanford Golf Course has hosted big tournaments including NCAA play and U.S. Open Qualifying.
