Stauber Named U.S. Olympic Women's Coach

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – Gopher Hockey alum Robb Stauber has been tabbed to lead the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
A native of Duluth, Minn., Stauber most recently served as the head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team that won gold at the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championship. His involvement with USA Hockey began in 2010 including an assistant coach position with the 2014 U.S. Women’s Olympic Team in Sochi, Russia.
"It's a tremendous honor to represent USA Hockey and our country in this capacity," said Stauber. "It's a privilege I don't take lightly and, at the end of the day, our mission is very straightforward and that's to win the gold medal in PyeongChang."
As a Gopher, Stauber was the first goaltender to win the Hobey Baker Award in 1988, adding First Team All-America and First Team All-WCHA that year. The netminder still holds program single-season records for games played (44), minutes played (2,621) and saves (1,243) from the 1987-88 campaign. In three seasons with the Gophers, Stauber posted a 73-23-0 record with a .906 save percentage. He led the Maroon & Gold to three-straight NCAA Frozen Fours as well as back-to-back WCHA regular-season titles in 1988 and 1989.
Following a 10-year professional career including NHL stints with Los Angeles Kings and the Buffalo Sabres, Stauber returned to the University of Minnesota as the team’s goalie coach from 2000-2008 and helped the Gophers claim back-to-back national championships in 2002 and 2003.
