Recent University of Minnesota graduate and former Gopher rower Anna Cruse and the rest of Team USA will compete at next week's 2017 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria as entries were finalized this week. A native of New Glarus, Wisconsin, Cruse became the first Gopher oarswoman to qualify for the U-23 National Team.
Cruse's team from Union Boat Club of Boston will compete in the Lightweight Women's Quadruple Sculls and also includes Janice Hagerman of Boston University, Emma Hopkins of Princeton University, and Makayla Karr-Warner of Boston University. The field consists of 10 teams representing Australia, Austria, Denmark, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the US.
The Lightweight Women's Quadruple events will take place in the afternoon, but with Bulgaria's time zone eight hours ahead of Minneapolis, the events will all be early in the morning for local Gopher fans. The first two heats will take place Wednesday beginning at 8:25 a.m. locally. Repechages take place Thursday morning at 3:55 a.m. while the finals will be held Saturday morning beginning at 8 a.m.
