MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – Incoming Gopher Hockey freshman Casey Mittelstadt has been voted the All-USA Athlete of the Year, USA Today announced on Wednesday.

A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Mittelstadt repeated as the USA Today All-USA Boys Hockey Player of the Year and a First Team selection as a senior in 2017. The forward also repeated as the Associated Press Player of the Year and First Team All-State last season.

Mittelstadt, who was drafted eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres last month at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, was honored as the 2017 recipient of the Mr. Hockey Award after leading Eden Prairie High School to the state tournament for the fourth-straight season. He also spent time in the USHL last year as a member of the Green Bay Gamblers.

The incoming Gopher freshman will represent the Maroon & Gold at USA Hockey’s 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase next month.
