Arnorsson Named All-America Scholar

Returning Gophers senior Rúnar Arnorsson has been named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Wednesday. To qualify for this award, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior with at least three years of competition experience, participation in at least 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, a stroke average under 76.00 and a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better.
Arnorsson, a native of Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, has been selected as a co-captain for the Gophers' 2017-18 season. He holds Minnesota's program 18-hole record with a score of 62, and is also tied for fourth with a 64.
Arnorsson has competed at the Big Ten Championships during each of his three seasons in the Maroon and Gold. During his junior season, he held a career-best 73.70 stroke average. Arnorsson has earned Academic All-Big Ten distinction twice.
The Minnesota men's golf team will begin its 2017-18 season with the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are open for the Sept. 10-11 tournament. Click here for more information.
