Former Gopher Jon Trasamar won the Dakotas Tour's 44th Annual Hillcrest Invitational Pro-Am on Sunday. The 2014 graduate, who made an important in that's year's Big Ten title for Minnesota, won on the third hole of a playoff.
Trasamar was 13 under par for the tournament. He carded a 2-under 70 in both the first and fourth rounds, with a 69 and a 6-under 66 between them. Trasamar and Tim Ailes were tied to start the final round, and Trasamar made three birdies in his final six holes, including 18, to force a playoff.
Other Gophers notes:
*Incoming freshman Angus Flanagan played for England at the European Boys' Team Championships (Jean-Louis Dupont Trophy) in July.
*Numerous current and former Gophers are starting play at the Pine to Palm Monday in Detroit Lakes. Last year, Charlie Duensing and Peter Jones tied for medalist honors, and William Leaf was the runner-up in match play. Duensing was the 2015 runner-up. Grady Meyer (2014 and 2015) and Trasamar (2013) won stroke play in recent years.
*Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are open for the 2017 Gopher Invitational. Held at Windsong Farm, it is one of the top tournaments in college golf.
