MINNEAPOLIS -- The Gophers men's golf team battled the elements to climb two spots on the leaderboard during its second day of play at the Marquette Intercollegiate in Erin, Wis. Minnesota shot a 10-over par 298 to move into a tie for seventh place.

Arizona State currently tops the team and player fields at Erin Hills Golf Course. The Sun Devils are two-over par with a score of 578, while Alex Del Rey leads all competitors with a five-under 139.

Despite facing a 40-minute delay late in the afternoon and rainy conditions throughout the day, all but one of the Gophers in the team field moved up in rank from Sunday to Monday.

Sophomore Angus Flanagan came up big for the team field and surged 31 spots from Sunday's competition, while senior Peter Jones again paced the individuals and claimed the top spot of all Minnesota golfers.

Flanagan had a tough first round that landed him in a tie for 47th after Sunday. The second round didn't start much better, as he was three-over after his first nine holes. Flanagan fought back, though, and posted birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 7 and 8 to put him at one-under for the day with a 71. He now holds a two-round score of 147, good for three-over par and in a tie for 15th place.

Jones built off of a solid start on Sunday and matched his score with another round of 72 Monday. He started the day with two birdies on the front nine to go one-under par, and shot three straight birdies on holes 12-14. He countered them with three bogeys, but still finished the day even. He moved up five places on the leaderboard and is currently tied for sixth with an even-par 144.

Junior Thomas Longbella also climbed the leaderboard during his second round. He began his day with two bogeys through the first nine holes, but countered with back-to-back birdies on No. 1 and No. 2 before ending with a two-over par 74. He shaved one stroke off of his Sunday round to go up 10 spots into a tie for 25th.

Sophomore Evan Long matched Longbella with a final score of 76, four-over par. He still climbed two spots in the rankings and is now tied for 33rd with a seven-over 151.

Freshman Lincoln Johnson began his second round with a birdie on his second hole, but was two-over par through his first nine. The rest of his round was highlighted by another birdie but he finished with a 77 on the day, five-over par. Johnson jumped up six spots and is currently tied for 41st, with a 153, nine-over par.

Junior Noah Rasinski had three birdies in his final seven hole but shot a six-over, 78. He currently sits in a tie for 48th with a 154, 10-over par.

Competing as individual, redshirt sophomore Gus Minkin jumped five places in the standings after a three-over 75 and is now tied for 30th with a six-over 150. Freshman Harry Plowman-Ollington rounded out individual competition for Minnesota. He finished the day with a 14-over 86 and has carded a 160 through two rounds to tie for 67th.

Final round action is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
