Gophers Ranked in CSCAA Preseason Top-25 Poll

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) have released their first Top-25 poll of the season and the University of Minnesota swimming and diving programs are well represented.
The Gopher women's swimming and diving squad will enter the year as the 13th-rated team in the nation. Minnesota capped their 2017-18 campaign with a tenth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, scoring 157 points, second most in program history. They will return 1-meter National Champion Sarah Bacon and five additional 2018 All-Americans to the pool this season. The Gophers finished fourth in the Big Ten standings after scoring 1,049 points at the conference championships and completing the year with a 5-1 conference record. The Gophers are the third-highest ranked Big Ten team in the preseason poll, trailing only Indiana (6th) and Michigan (3rd).
The Gopher men will enter the season as the 18th-rated team in the CSCAA preseason poll. The Gophers will begin the year following a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2018, at which they scored 67 points. The championships for the men were highlighted by a third-place 50 free finish by Bowen Becker. Additionally, Becker helped the team to a fifth-place finish in the Big Ten with his conference championship in the 50 free. The Gophers are the fourth-highest rated Big Ten men's program in the poll.
Minnesota will begin their season this Friday when they face the Badgers in Madison, Wisc. Diving will begin at 3 p.m. with swimming taking place at 5 p.m. at the Natatorium in Madison.
The rankings are voted on by CSCAA-member coaches. The next polls are scheduled for release on October 24, November 14, December 5, January 23, February 13 and February 20.
