Gophers Complete Two Rounds in Nevada

With just one roundĀ of golf remaining in the fall season, the Minnesota women's team stayed consistent in the middle frame and shaved two strokes from itsĀ Sunday score of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Gophers fell one spot on the leaderboardĀ and are now in 16th.

Sophomore Grace Kellar again led the Gophers in the second day of competition. She had a tough start that saw her go four-over par in her first eight holes, but she carded an eagle on No. 2 for a boost. She settled in from there and shot to par on all but one hole to finish the day with a three-over 75 and in a tie for 33rd. She currently has a two-over par 146 on the tournament.

Sophomore Kate Lillie had a standout day that saw her tie a career-best score for round with a 71. She got through the first nine one-over par, and then tallied three birdies on the last nine to finish the day one-under. She climbed 23 spots on the leaderboard and currently sits tied for 40th with a three-over 147.

Sophomore Joanne Free went up one-over par through four holes, and shot to par through the next 10. She countered a bogey with a birdie on the final two holes of the day to finish one-over par with a 73, her best round of the season and the second-best in her career. She has a six-over 150 on the tournament and is tied for 62nd, a 12-spot improvement from the opening round.

Freshman Karen Zhang recorded two birdies in the first nine that helped her to two-over par, and she shot to par on six of the last nine. She finished the round with a six-over 78 and is currently tied for 72nd with a 153, nine-over par.

Senior Muyu Wu rounded out competition for the second round with a seven-over 79. She added five strokes through three holes, but fought back to shoot to par on the next nine. She added two more strokes and carded a birdie to close out the day. She sits at a 15-over 159 on the tournament in a tie for 86th.

Oregon State kept the team lead and is 18-under par with a 558 and its own Ellie Slama is first on the player leaderboard with a nine-under 135.

The team closes out its fall season with its last round in Nevada tomorrow. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.
