Gophers Earn No. 7 Seed in Big Ten Tournament; Travel to No. 2 Seed Rutgers

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota soccer prepares for their 10th consecutive Big Ten Tournament appearance as they head to Piscataway, N.J. for a Big Ten Quarterfinal matchup with second seeded Rutgers. The Gophers earned the seventh seed after going 5-5-1 in conference play and holding the head-to-head tie breaker over Michigan.
BIG TEN TOURNAMENT OUTLOOK
Penn State will be the No. 1 seed after securing their 19th regular season championship. Rutgers, Wisconsin and Ohio State all round up the top-four teams who will host the quarterfinal matchups at their respective campus sites.
The semifinals and championship match will take place Nov. 2 and 4 respectively at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.
GOPHERS BIG TEN TOURNEY HISTORY
Minnesota is 15-11-4 all-time in Big Ten Tournament history which includes two tournament tiles that came in the 1995 and 2016 season. The 2019 tournament marks the first time that the Gophers will be the seventh seed in the eight team field. Last season the Gophers bowed out of tournament following a quarterfinal loss to Wisconsin, 2-0.
Against Rutgers in the tournament, Minnesota is 1-1 with the win coming during 2016 Big Ten Tournament championship game where the Gophers won in front of their home crowd by a score of 2-1.
BOCKIN SHARING HER WAY THROUGH THE RECORD BOOKS
Assisting Molly Fiedler's goal against Iowa, April Bockin is now tied for fifth all-time with Corrine Bolder and Erin Hussey with 25 career assists. Bockin currently ranks in the top-10 for career assists among active NCAA Division I players. As for Fiedler, she currently sits tied with Laurie Sidel at 24 career assists. Â

April Bockin's 10 goals just isn't leading the team, but also leads the Big Ten. The eight have come during conference play is also a Big Ten best. The forward also leads the Big Ten in shots (60) and points (25).

Sophomore Maddie Nielsen has seen 1660:27 minutes of action between the posts which ranks 20th in the NCAA and 6th in the Big Ten. She holds a 71.6 save percentage collecting 53 saves along with six shutouts, one of which was combined with teammate Ana Aguado.

After falling to Rutgers in double overtime earlier this season, the Gophers now trail the all-time series 3-4. During the regular season match up on September 30th, Emily Heslin netted a header from McKenna Buisman's corner kick that tied up the game in the 40th minute. Though the Gophers lead a heavy attack during the second half and first overtime, a Scarlet Knight goal in the 105th minute sealed the victory for Rutgers.
