LINCOLN, Neb. – Alec Basten clocked one of the fastest eight-kilometer times in University of Minnesota history to earn Second Team All-Big Ten honors on Sunday morning at the 2018 Big Ten Cross Country Championships at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.

Behind four personal eight-kilometer records from its scorers, the Maroon & Gold finished seventh at the conference competition with 164 team points.

Basten's time of 23:45.1 was not only a personal record for the redshirt sophomore, it stands as the eighth-fastest eight-kilometer in Gopher cross country history. His eighth-place finish on Sunday stands as his third top-10 finish of the year while Basten has led the Maroon & Gold in all four of his races this season.

Minnesota has now carried an All-Big Ten runner for five-straight seasons with nine Gophers earning all-conference honors over that stretch. This year's accolade is the first career honor for Basten.

The Maroon & Gold's first four scorers recorded personal records on Sunday as Evan Ferlic added a 16th-place finish at 24:06.8 followed by Jack Manderscheid in 31st at 24:28.0. Robert Wagner added a personal record at 25:02.1 to finish 56th overall (52nd among scorers). Nick Rink closed out Minnesota's scoring at 25:08.6 to place 64th overall (57th among scorers).

Additionally, Shane Streich (73rd, 25:22.5), Owen Hoeft (77th, 25:29.7), Connor Olson (89th, 25:48.9) and Seth Eliason (96th, 26:20.1) competed for the Gophers but did not factor into the team's scoring.

Minnesota returns to action on Friday, Nov. 2 with the Fall Finale in Collegeville, Minn., before heading to the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 9 in Peoria, Ill.
