Gophers Defeat Badgers in Border Battle

The No. 3 University of Minnesota earned a 3-1 road win over the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers, tonight, in Madison, Wis. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 19-2 overall and 13-0 in Big Ten play. Wisconsin drops to 16-5 overall and 9-4 in league action.
Adanna Rollins led the team with 17 kills when she hit .395 and had a team-high 38 attempts. She also completed the double-double with 13 digs. Taylor Morgan added 15 kills and hit .385. Stephanie Samedy added a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Alexis Hart had 12 kills. Samantha Seliger-Swenson added a season-high 56 assists and had six digs and an ace. Both Morgan and Regan Pittman had three blocks. The back row duo of Lauren Barnes and CC McGraw each had 16 digs.
Although Wisconsin led in blocks (8) and hitting percentage (.296), but the Gophers held a 66-60 kill lead. With the win, the Gophers have now won the past eight-straight matches over the Badgers, dating back to 2014.
Minnesota is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 3, when it hosts Michigan State at 7 p.m. at Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers and Spartans will be televised live on Big Ten Network.
Set 1: Wisconsin hit .406 to Minnesota's .075 to win the first, 25-16. Minnesota took an 8-5 lead off a Seliger-Swenson joust at the net and a 10-6 lead off a Pittman kill. Wisconsin came back to tie the set at 11-11 and took a 13-11 lead as the Gophers called a timeout. Rollins pulled the Gophers within two at 14-16, but Wisconsin later took a 19-15 lead on a kill. The Badgers went up 24-15 lead off a kill and finished off the set with a kill for the 1-0 lead.
Set 2: The Gophers evened the match with a 25-22 second set win. Minnesota opened the second set with a 6-3 lead as Wisconsin used its first timeout. A Hart kill put the Gophers up, 9-5, while Samedy added one of her own at 11-5. Rollins put the Gophers up, 14-7 and 16-10 off kills. Wisconsin rattled off three-straight as the Gophers called a timeout. The Badgers pulled within one at 17-16, however Hart responded with a kill for the two-point lead. She and Morgan then combined for a block at the 19-16 point as the Badgers called their second timeout. Minnesota later went up 22-18 on a Morgan kill. Minnesota called a timeout as the Badgers pulled within two at 23-21. Minnesota responded and finished off the set with kills from Samedy and a Jasmyn Martin kill to even the match, 1-1.

Pittman and Seliger-Swenson combined for a block, while Pittman added a kill as Wisconsin used its second timeout. A Morgan kill pushed the Gopher lead to 22-17, while Samedy hit one off the block put it at set point. Rollins added her sixth kill of the set for the 25-19 win and a 2-1 match lead.

Samedy added back-to-back kills to give the Gophers a 19-15 lead as the Badgers burned their second timeout within the same run. Minnesota took 21-17 lead off a Rollins kill, while Hart added a kill at the 23-19 point. Hart added the final point as the Gophers took the match in four.
