10/9/2018 12:47:00 PM | Baseball
MINNEAPOLIS – Week three of the Steak 'n' Beans World Series saw White stake a 4-2 lead with a pair of victories, the first time the two teams did not split on the weekend. Maroon will need a pair of wins this Friday and Saturday to even the score as the series comes to an end this weekend.
Game 5: White 5, Maroon 3
The White pitching staff did not allow a hit in Thursday's outing, surrendering three runs in the sixth inning thanks to a pair of fielding errors and seven walks in the game.
White jumped out to an early lead, scoring all five of its runs in the third. Riley Smith went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, Jordan Kozicky reached base twice with a pair of walks, and Gabe Knowles drove in and scored a run in the victory. Ryan Duffy tossed the first 1.2 innings for White, striking out one. Jeff Fasching then came in for 2.2 hitless innings, striking out a pair.
On the Maroon side, Patrick Fredrickson ran into trouble in his second inning of work, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks before handing the ball to Nick Lackney who went 2.2 shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four. Sam Bridges tossed an inning, striking out one.
Game 6: White 7, Maroon 6
The offenses came alive for game six as White scored seven runs in the eighth inning to claim a come-from-behind victory.
Maroon seemed set to match White's pitching effort from the prior day with 3.0 hitless innings each from Sam Thoresen and Joshua Culliver to start the day. Thoresen struck out four, while Culliver added a pair. Ben Mezzenga went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Noah Berghammer, slugged a pair of doubles, and Easton Bertrand drove in a pair of runs on a home run to lead the offense to a 6-0 victory.
White did all its damage in the eighth as Eduardo Estrada, Jr. slugged a grand slam to lead the way. Smith drove in a pair of runs, and Kozicky added an RBI single in the inning. Andrew Wilhite scored a pair of runs, including the game-winner.

Max Meyer continues to lead both teams offensively, batting .333 for Maroon in the series … Kozicky is batting .312 and Knowles .307 to lead White … Bertrand leads all batters with five RBIs for Maroon … Thoresen's 1.04 ERA leads all pitchers.
