Seven Gophers Medal at Four Nations Cup

Kelly Pannek joined six Gopher alumnae in competing at the 2018 Four Nations Cup last week.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota redshirt senior Kelly Pannek joined alumnae Megan Bozek, Hannah Brandt, Dani Cameranesi, Amanda Kessel, and Gigi Marvin in winning gold with the U.S. Women's National Team while fellow Gopher alumna Noora Raty took home bronze with Finland at the 2018 Four Nations Cup last week in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
University of Minnesota associate head coach Joel Johnson served as an assistant coach for the U.S. as the Red, White, and Blue won its fourth-consecutive gold medal at the Four Nations Cup, going undefeated in three preliminary round games before topping Canada's National Women's Team in the gold-medal game by a score of 5-2.
The U.S. won 5-1 over Finland, 2-1 over Canada, and 5-1 over Sweden in preliminary round games before its convincing 5-2 victory over Canada for gold. For the tournament, Cameranesi's six points (2g-4a) were tied for second among all players. Brandt (2g-1a), Kessel (1a), Marvin (1a), and Pannek (1a) all got on the score sheet as well.
Meanwhile, Raty backstopped Finland to bronze, recording 31 saves on 33 shots faced in the team's 4-2 win in the bronze-medal game. Raty also made 44 saves on 49 shots faced against the U.S. and stopped Canada on 42 of 44 shots faced in preliminary round play. For the tournament, Raty posted 120 saves on 129 shots faced for a 3.00 goals against average and .930 save percentage in three games played.
The WCHA was well-represented at the Four Nations Cup with 30 current or former players competing for their countries. Minnesota redshirt junior Sarah Potomak was chosen to represent Canada's National Women's Team at the Four Nations Cup as well, but she was unable to participate due to injury.
Pannek returns to Minnesota's line-up for this weekend's home-and-home series with St. Cloud State.
