STARTING FIVE
• The Minnesota men's basketball team completes its cross-continental journey on Monday, visiting Boston College in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. While it's the first meeting between the two teams, Gophers head coach Richard Pitino has faced BC once before, an 84-70 defeat in Conte Forum on Nov. 11, 2012 - his first game as FIU's head coach.Â
• The Gophers are coming off a 3-0 trip to the TCL Vancouver Showcase, earning wins over Texas A&M, Santa Clara and Washington. It marks the second straight year the Gophers have gone undefeated in an MTE event (2017 Barclays Center Classic). Prior to that, Minnesota last went undefeated in an MTE tournament in 2010 at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
• Senior forward Jordan Murphy became the program's all-time leading rebounder on Nov. 20 in the win over Santa Clara. Murphy passed Mychal Thompson's record of 956 which stood for more than 30 years.
• Through five games, four out of the Gophers starting five is individually averaging double figure scoring, including 10 or more points from the entire quintet on Nov. 12 against Utah. Minnesota's last game with all five starters scoring in double figures was on Jan. 3 last year in the win over Illinois.Â
• Senior forward Jordan Murphy has earned some impressive accolades leading into the start of the season. The San Antonio, Texas native was a Preseason All-Big Ten Team selection as well as named to the Naismith Trophy (top college basketball player) and Karl Malone Award watch list for the top power forward in the country.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• Boston College is 4-1 on the season, winning its last two games including a 78-66 victory over Loyola Chicago in the Fort Myers Classic championship game.
• The Eagles' lone defeat came at the hands of IUPUI, 76-69, on Nov. 14 in Chestnut Hill.Â
• Ky Bowman leads a quartet of BC double-digit scorers, averaging 21.8 points per game. That figure ranks second in the ACC, as of Nov. 24.Â
• Steffon Mitchell is the ACC"s fourth-leading rebounder at 8.8 boards per game.Â
