Gophers Set to Host Minnesota Invite
11/27/2018 4:57:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
Minnesota swimming and diving welcomes five universities and a selection of local club teams to the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center this Thursday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 1 for their annual Minnesota Invite.
Utah, San Jose State, South Dakota State, St. Olaf, and Carlton are all sending swimmers to face off against the Gophers in the mid-season meet, which will not feature a diving competition this year. The action kicks off Thursday at 9 a.m. with the preliminary heats and continues at 5 p.m. with the event finals.
The Invite serves as the final home meet of the season for the Gophers, who have 18 swimmers participating in this week's competition.
For the men, Tommy Barr, Cale Berkoff, Will Brenton, Erik Hunter, Peter Lefebvre, Max Lezer, Hayden Linscott, Max McHugh, Nick Saulnier and Eitan Yudashkin will represent the Maroon & Gold off the blocks. McHugh's only race of the weekend will be the 100 Breaststroke, in which he swam an NCAA "A" cut time of 51.73 at the Hawkeye Invitational to claim the second-best time in the country.
On the women's side, the Gophers will compete Emily Baude, Abbey Erwin, Emma Hepper, Olivia Johnston, Lindsey Kozelsky, Emma Linscott, Kasey Milstroh and Tevyn Waddell. Kozelsky enters the meet having swam an NCAA "A" cut in the 100 Breaststroke at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Her time of 58.70 ranks third in the nation. After racking up nine first place finishes (four individual, five relay) at the Hawkeye Invitational, Waddell looks to try her hand in the mid-distance Freestyle events this weekend.
The Minnesota Invite is the last mid-season meet before the Gophers begin the latter half of their schedule with their training trip to Hawai'i, which they will cap off with a dual meet against the University of Hawai'i on Jan. 12.
