MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota senior guard Kenisha Bell was named to the Big Ten's Honor Roll for the second straight week, the conference announced Monday.
Bell averaged 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game last week as the 20th-ranked Gophers won both games to improve to 7-0 on the season.
The Minneapolis native led all scorers in the team's 72-68 victory against No. 12 Syracuse Thursday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Bell scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had three assists. Eleven of her 24 points came in the fourth quarter alone. The Orange used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to lead 57-55, but Minnesota answered with a 12-0 run of its own. In the 12-0 run, Bell scored eight points.
In a 67-50 win over Air Force Sunday, Bell once again led all scorers with a season-high 27 points and came a rebound shy of a double-double for the third straight contest. She also had a season-high six steals, a pair of assists and one blocked shot. She scored 12 points alone in the second quarter, the most points by a Gopher in any quarter this year. It was her fourth 20-point game this season, and she's the only Gopher to reach double figures in every game this season.
For the season, Bell is averaging a team-high 21.3 points, 3.6 assists and 2.9 steals per game. She is also third on the squad with 6.9 rebounds per contest. Through Sunday's game, Bell was tied for the nation's lead in free throw attempts (70) while ranking ninth in free throws made (43).
In addition to leading the Big Ten in those two categories, Bell was also second in the league in scoring and field goal attempts (117) and was third in field goals made (51), points (149), steals (20) and steals per game.
Bell's honor marks the third straight week that a Gopher has been named to the Big Ten's Honor Roll as junior forward Taiye Bello received the same recognition two weeks ago.
Minnesota wraps up its six-game homestand on Wednesday with a matinee matchup against Incarnate Word. Tipoff for Field Trip Day is scheduled for noon on BTN Plus.
