Bacon Wins Gold on Day Two of B1G Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Minnesota women's swimming and diving collected three medals Thursday evening at the Big Ten Championship meet in Columbus, Ohio. The Gophers currently sit in fourth place with 355 points, just behind Indiana, Ohio State and Michigan.
For the second year in a row a Minnesota diver takes home gold in the 1-meter diving competition. Sophomore Sarah Bacon continued her streak of dominance on the springboard posting a personal-best score of 353.80, following a 349.50 in the prelims earlier in the day. Xiao Fu placed fifth with a score of 409.25, while Kristen Hayden collected 12th with a score of 293.50.
Senior Danielle Nack collected her first individual medal of the meet, swimming the 50 freestyle in a personal-best time of 22.10 to collect the silver medal. Junior Zoe Avestruz finished seventh in the A final touching in at 22.30. Junior Kaia Grobe swam a personal-best in the C final touching the wall at a NCAA `B' Cut time of 22.97.
Mark it down as the third school record broken by a Gopher relay squad at the Big Ten Championship meet. The team of Tevyn Waddell, Lindsey Kozelsky, D. Nack and Avestruz recorded another new record time of 3:28.96 in their 400 medley relay silver finish.
Kozelsky had the Gophers highest finish in the 200 IM, finishing 12th in a NCAA `B' cut time of 1:57.87. In the 500 free, Brooke Zeigerr (4:34.13) and Chantal Nack (4:43.13) tied for 13th place while teammate Mackenzie Padington finished 16th in a time of 4:45.61.
The meet resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CT with preliminary swims of the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 3-meter diving.
