Gophers Sit in Third at B1G Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio - It was another night of personal and school record times being recorded as the University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving team sit in third place after the third day of Big Ten Championship competition. For the second night in a row, Minnesota notched three medal winners.
Senior Danielle Nack kicked things off for the Gophers in the 100 butterfly posting a second place finish with a NCAA "A" cut time of 51.15. Not only did Nack set a personal record, but she broke the school record for the event that stood strong since 2013. Tevyn Waddell worked her way to a ninth place finish with her new personal-best time of 52.31.
Senior Brooke Zeiger made the podium with a fifth place finish (4:10.02) in the 400 IM and Chantal Nack placed seventh (1:46.03) in the 200 freestyle.
Minnesota had five swimmers compete in the 100 breaststroke, where four of them had NCAA "B" standard time. Lindsey Kozelsky led the way for the Gophers with her silver medal finish in a NCAA "A" qualifying time of 57.91. Kozelsky's time was good for a new school record, beating the record time she set at last year's NCAA meet. Rachel Munson also made the podium in the event with her time of 59.53 for a fourth place finish and new personal record.
Waddell raced her way to a fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke finals with a time of 52.44.
Sarah Bacon did what she does best and earned herself a silver medal in the 3-meter diving finals, her score of 383.40 was a NCAA "A" qualifying score. Kristen Hansen dove a 353.85 for a fifth place finish and Xiao Fu posted a score of 330.75 for an eighth place finish. The five Gophers who competed in this event helped bump Minnesota up from fourth place to third place in the overall rankings.
The Gophers ended the evening with the 200 freestyle relays. The squad of Kozelsky, Kaia Grobe, C. Nack, and Waddell worked together to swim to a fifth place finish with a time of 1:30.67.
Minnesota women's swimming and diving closes out Big Ten competition Saturday, February 17. Preliminary swims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and platform diving begin at 10 a.m. CT.
