Final Stats

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 14 Minnesota (5-3) fell twice on day two of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Tallahassee, Fla. The Gophers opened up the day falling to Notre Dame (4-3) despite a late rally before falling to No. 8 Florida State (7-0) in the nightcap.

Freshman Ellee Jensen led the Minnesota offense going 3-for-7 driving in one run and crossing the plate twice.

Game One | RV Notre Dame 6, No. 14 Minnesota 5
Maddie Houlihan drove in two runs in a seventh inning rally that led the Gophers to lose by the shortest margin against Notre Dame. Prior to the rope up the middle, Minnesota was hitless since the fourth inning.

Notre Dame struck first in the opening frame taking advantage of two Minnesota errors plating two runs.

The Gophers responded in the third, as Jensen drew a two-out walk. One batter later, Kendyl Lindaman sent a rocket over the left field wall collecting her third home run of the year to tie the game at 2-2. One inning later, Minnesota took advantage of a Notre Dame error as Jensen sent a RBI single through the left side to score Dani Wagner who started the inning with a single.

Through three innings of play, starter Amber Fiser (3-2) had only allowed one hit and no earned runs. Fiser finished the game allowing seven hits on six runs, four which were earned, while recording five strikeouts.

The fourth inning got the best of the Minnesota starter as Notre Dame sent eight hitters to the plate posting four runs on four hits.

Going in to the top of the seventh and trailing by three, Minnesota gave one last effort at the plate before falling 6-5.

Game Two | No. 8 Florida State 9, No. 14 Minnesota 3
Florida State struck early and often in the rematch of two top-15 teams. The Seminoles scored a run in the second and third against Minnesota starter Sydney Smith.

Producing the first run for Minnesota was Sydney Dwyer, driving in Erika Rozell who led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle.

Sending all nine hitters to the plate in the fourth, the Seminoles placed a four spot on the scoreboard after stringing together four hits. Highlighting the FSU half of the fourth was a three-run home run from Anna Shelnutt.

Minnesota did not go away without a fight. Dwyer led off the Gopher half of the sixth with a walk. Houlihan on the next at bat snuck a ball just inside the right field line to put a pair of Gophers in scoring position. Danielle Parlich tallied her first RBI of the weekend with a groundout to score Dwyer. Rozell capped off her 2-for-3 game driving in Houlihan with a single down the right field line cutting the FSU lead to 6-3.

Cassidy Davis extended the FSU lead in the seventh connecting on a full count pitch that was sent to dead center for a three-run home run giving FSU the 9-3 victory.

Smith (2-1) suffered the loss in the circle tossing a complete game and recording three strikeouts.
