Gophers Sweep the Day, Defeat Coyotes 6-1

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota defeated South Dakota Friday 6-1. Barbara Mancera led the way with a comeback win in the No. 3 singles spot, winning 1-6, 6-4, 10-4.
"I thought we played a good match," Mancera said. "Most courts got off to a hot start, and I thought we all did a good job of competing. It was great to come back from last weekends loss to win back-to-back matches 6-1."
Doubles
The No. 2 doubles pairing of Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei won 6-3, while Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safdar finished off their opponents 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles spot. Annemarie Emme and Camila Vargas Gomez secured the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Singles
No. 4 singles Merzbacher made quick work of her opponent, winning a dominant 6-0, 6-0 match, shortly followed by No. 6 singles Frei winning 6-1, 6-1. Freshman River Hart won as well in the No. 5 singles spot, a 6-2, 6-1 win, followed by a win from Ryba in the No. 1 spot. The final two matches both went into the third set, with Emme falling 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the No. 2 singles spot, and Mancera closing the match with a 1-6, 6-4, 10-4 win.
